Frau Katarzyna Lasinska befindet sich bis 31. August 2012 in Elternzeit.

Katarzyna Lasinska is a lecturer at the Chair for Political Science and International Comparative Social Science. The main fields of her interest are theories of Political Culture, Social Capital and Value Changes, as well as Democratization processes in Central and Eastern Europe.

In 1997 she graduated from the Warsaw School of Economics (Poland) in International Economics and Politics. Additionally she completed graduate studies on European Integration (1998).

In her PhD project, started in 2007, she explores social capital in Poland, which is especially low in the aftermaths of the communism. Current low endowment with social capital is particularly astonishing in a country with the most vibrant civil society before the collapse of the communism. This international comparative study aims at disentangling a number of conditions differentiating Poland from other countries stamped with communist legacy.  A number of Polish characteristics, such as strong Catholicism, traditionalism and “rebellious” nature of political participation turn out to be negatively correlated with social capital building.

        Teaching activities:

  • Social capital, value changes and religiosity in Eastern Europe
  • Political Culture in Eastern Europe
  • Political Culture and Democratization in Eastern Europe

In April 2009 Katarzyna Lasinska presented a paper “Religiously rooted conservatism: an international comparative study of social networks” at ECPR Joint Session in Lisbon.
